The verse that your mother is looking for is Psalms 90:10:

Psalms 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Difficult situations are made bearable in this life if we put our trust in God. The Bible helps us to see our lives from God’s viewpoint; that this life is a time of trial to fit us for that life which is to come when Christ returns. If we have believed and been baptised into Christ we have become children of God. As such we know that if we hold fast, whatever happens to us will be for our eternal wellbeing though we may not understand it at the time. God knows beforehand what will happen to us.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

God wants us to put our trust in him in all our troubles. God tests our faith by the adversities of this life to teach us to live by his commandments. Christ himself learned obedience by the things which he suffered.

Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

We have the assurance that God deals with us as a father with his children. The Bible records some of the experiences of men and women who suffered adversity and put their trust in God. All have their names written in the book of life and will be raised to eternal life when Christ returns. Their experiences are written for our learning and admonition. James brings them to our attention

James 5: Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Job’s trust in God was complete.

Job 13:15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him...

He believed in the resurrection.

NKJV Job 13:25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; 26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, 27 Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

David likewise speaks of his sure hope of resurrection.

Psalms 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Psalm 23 is without equal. As our shepherd died and was raised to life so will his sheep trust and follow him.

Psalm 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

David in adversity encouraged himself in God.

NKJV Psalm 27:13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Again in Psalm 31, the advice is for all that hope in God.

Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

And again in Psalm 37.

NKJV Ps 37:4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him...

In Psalm 42.

Psalm 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

God speaks of the life to come through the prophet Isaiah.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

In Christ our resurrection is guaranteed.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

He tells us that our lives are valued by God.

Luke 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Paul says that we shall be raised when Christ returns.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Paul speaks of the sufferings of this life.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Paul reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
