Adam disobeyed God and brought sin and death upon his descendants. We all sin and all die.
Ezekiel 18:4... The soul who sins shall die.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death...
At death we return to dust - we disintegrate back into the chemical elements of which we are made.
When we die no part of us lives on with a conscious existence (as some would have us believe).
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing...
The dead are said to sleep in the dust and Daniel prophesies that there will be a resurrection and judgment of the dead.
Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
All who have come to understand that God has promised resurrection through his son will be raised again from the dead. Those that have done good will be given eternal life and those that have done evil will die again. Revelation calls this the second death (Revelation 2:11).
Resurrection has been made possible by the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
The ‘all’ is to be understood to be limited to those who understand the purpose of God and so became responsible. Those who die without understanding will not be raised to judgment but will remain dead forever.
AV Proverbs 21:16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
There is then to be a resurrection both of the just and the unjust.
Acts 24:15 "I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.
John 5:28 "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 "and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
The judge will be Jesus.
John 5:22 "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
Acts 17:31... (God) has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
Those who are given everlasting life will have their bodies changed.
Philippians 3:21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
There will be two resurrections.
1. When Christ returns to the earth.
1 Corinthians 15:23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them... And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
2. At the end of the millennial reign.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
After the second resurrection and judgment the wicked will be destroyed and all who live on will be immortal. Sin and death will be no more and God himself will dwell with men forever.
Paul describes what will happen.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
In this way the earth will be filled with the glory of God which is his declared purpose.
Numbers 14:21 "but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD
Jesus describes it thus -
Matthew 13:43 "Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
I hope this helps.
