This is confirmed by Solomon in Ecclesiastes, Ecclesiastes 3:20 All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust.

Death is spoken of as sleeping in the dust. The only way that we can be saved from death is by resurrection at the return of Christ. This is the substance of the Gospel. John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. Acts 24:15 I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

That God would provide a Messiah to save those that will believe has been known right from the days of Adam. The Messiah is the seed of the woman that would bruise the head of the serpent, prophesied in Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

The bruising of the serpent’s head is a metaphor for the undoing of the consequences of the serpent’s deceit (sin and death). The bruising of his heel is a metaphor for the temporary death inflicted on the Messiah. Faith or belief that God would provide a Messiah, and a life lived accordingly, provided the same hope of resurrection to Adam and his descendants who lived before Christ, as Faith that God has provided him in Christ does for us.

Paul explains in Romans 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

And again in 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For "He has put all things under His feet." We see then that death and corruption to dust in the grave is the lot of all from Adam onwards. The hope of all that will believe and trust in God and live their lives accordingly is resurrection from the dead when Christ returns and eternal life in the kingdom of God.
