A visitor writes,
"Is our body the temple of the holy spirit?"
The Holy Spirit is not the third person of a ‘trinity’. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.
Paul describes the indwelling of the Spirit of God in the believer:
1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? —unless indeed you are disqualified.
This is to be understood in the sense that all scripture is given by inspiration of God. If we believe that which is written and obey the Gospel preached by Jesus and the apostles, then the Spirit of God finds a place within us.
The Spirit of God is the same as the Spirit of Christ.
Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
The aim is to change our natural way of thinking to the way that Jesus and his Father think. This is described as the renewing of our mind.
Ephesians 4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
This is done by understanding and obeying the commandments of Jesus Christ.
Jesus, speaking to Nicodemas describes it as being born again of the spirit – that is – the way that we think must change.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Peter describes it as being born again by the word of God.
1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
I hope this helps,
God bless.
