What did Jesus say one must do after believing the gospel?
Following belief of the Gospel, we must repent of our sins — change the way that we think and act — and be baptised by immersion in water.
- Matthew 3:1-6 John Baptist first preached repentance and baptism.
- Matthew 3:13-15 Jesus, although having no sins to repent of, set the example by being baptised.
- John 3:26; 4:1-3 Jesus had his disciples baptise people:
- John 3:1-5 Jesus, speaking to Nicodemus described baptism as 'being born of water'.
- Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15,16 Jesus commissioned his disciples to preach the Gospel and to baptize all who believed.
- Acts 2:38,41 The apostle Peter told the Jews, on the day of Pentecost to repent and be baptized.
- Acts 8:35-38 Philip baptised the Ethiopian eunuch.
- Acts 22:16 Ananias told Paul, the apostle to the gentiles, that he must be baptised.
- 1 Peter 3:21 Peter explains the importance of baptism.
- Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:26-29 Paul explains the meaning of baptism.
Baptism marks the beginning of a new life to be lived by the commandments of Jesus.
