Why do you think Jesus did not Baptize?

I believe that Jesus did not baptise to make clear that the validity of baptism does not depend on the one baptising. Rather it is made valid by the faith of the one being baptised.

  • Acts 8:36-38 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized? 37  Then Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38  So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

The error of setting store by the baptiser was something that Paul encountered at Corinth:

  • 1 Corinthians 1:11-15  For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12  Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ." 13  Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15  lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

I hope you find this helpful.

God bless,
