What is the meaning of Titus 2:13, Hebrew 1:8, 1 John 5:30 and Isaiah 9:5? Are these references evidence that Jesus is God?
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:8,9 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
God = Strong's number 2316 θεός theos Translated in the KJV — ‘God’ 1320 times, ‘god’ 13 times, ‘godly’ 3 times, ‘God-ward + 4214’ 2 times, misc 5 times. Meaning:
The Greek word can be legitimately applied to God’s representative as is made clear by Jesus:
Jesus will certainly return as God’s representative.
Jesus is not God – he is the Son of God. It is not possible for a father and son to be the same person – otherwise words have no meaning.
‘The true God’ surely refers back to God (the Father) as mentioned in verse 18 and 19.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
From this we see that ‘God’ in context can be applied to one who is ‘God like’ in power, without being God the creator.
The ‘everlasting father’ is applicable to Christ because he now has eternal life and is the spiritual father of all those he saves – as prophesied in Isaiah 53.
Jesus is not God – he is the Son of God and as the Son of God he is the mediator between us and God.
The doctrine of the trinity is not found in the Bible. It is a false doctrine invented by an apostate church, rightly described in Revelation as the ‘Mother of Harlots’ – her ‘daughters’ being those protestant churches who adopted most of her doctrines.
I hope you find this helpful.
God bless,
