What is the meaning of Ephesians 2:6? What does he mean by heavenly places?
Ephesians 2:6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
The key to understanding this is found in John 3:13. John 3:13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.Jesus, seated with Nicodemus on earth, says that he is ‘in heaven’. This, in context, can only mean that he is ‘in heaven’ in that he could speak of heavenly things, and declare the will of God to man.
He had previously said: John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Paul and the believers at Ephesus were in ‘heavenly places’ in Christ Jesus because they now understood ‘heavenly things’, that is, the Gospel, and, like Jesus before them, could tell others ‘heavenly things’.
Paul writes to the Colossians:
Colossians 1:5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel.
The Gospel is the revelation of ‘heavenly things’ which appertain to salvation.
I hope you find this helpful.
God bless,
