I have committed sexual sins after becoming a Christian. How can I overcome my lust?
When we believe the Gospel and are baptised into Jesus Christ all our past sins are forgiven, and we begin a new life living by Christ’s commandments.Romans 6:3,4; John 15:13
This doesn’t mean that we can suddenly live a sinless life. Paul describes his experience in Romans 7:14-25
The propensity to sin resides in our nature. We cannot save ourselves by living a sinless life. After baptism we will still sin through weakness, but providing we are making a determined effort to live by Christ’s commandments, our sins will be forgiven by confession in prayer. 1 John 1:7-10
When we fail, we must pick ourselves up and try not to fall into sin again. If the problem is a recurring one, we must try the distraction technique of actively focussing on something else. Philippians 4:8
James advises us to confess our faults one to another and pray for one another. James 5:16
Life in Christ is a progression. To be born of water takes very little time, but to be born of the Spirit takes the rest of our lives. Romans 12:2; 2 Peter 1:5-11; Philippians 3:12-14
Regular Bible reading is a necessary aid to keep our minds focussed on the things that matter.
I hope you find this helpful.
God bless,
