What does the Bible say about resisting sexual temptation?
If we believe and obey the gospel preached by Jesus and his apostles, we are promised eternal life in the kingdom of God. This prize is so valuable that all the pleasures of this life pale into insignificance. To attain to it we must first repent of our sinful way of life, be baptised by immersion in water for the remission of past sins and live a new life by the commandments of Jesus Christ.
Sexual urges are part of our nature and marriage between a man and a woman is the normal solution. Sex outside of marriage is called fornication. Fornication, if not forgiven, will exclude us from the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:3.
To avoid temptation, we must occupy our mind with better things. Philippians 4:8
We are to exercise self-control. 2 Peter 1:5
God made us with freedom of choice and if we want to be in the kingdom, we must choose the things which please God and not ourselves. Proverbs 4:26,27; Hebrews 12:13
Our life effectively consists of the choices we make. Do we serve God or ourselves?
When we obey the gospel and are baptised into Christ, we will still sin through weakness, but provided we are making a determined effort to live by Christ’s commandments, the sins we commit through weakness can be forgiven by confession in prayer. 1 John 1:7
