Who is Jesus? Is he really God pretending to be human?
Jesus is the promised seed of the woman who would (metaphorically) bruise the head of the serpent. Which means that he would overcome sin in himself and provide a way of escape for the faithful from sin and death.
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.
Jesus is the promised descendant of Abraham in whom all nations will be blessed. - By making possible resurrection from the dead to eternal life.
Genesis 22:18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ.
Jesus is the promised descendant of David who will establish his throne forever.
2 Samuel 7:12 When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 "He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
Luke 1:32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."
Jesus is the Son of God, conceived by the power of God in the womb of Mary, a descendant of Abraham and David. He is NOT "God the Son." See Jesus: God the Son or Son of God (Please click on the title).
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Jesus is the lamb of God who by his sinless life and sacrifice made possible the forgiveness of sins and the resurrection from death to life of the faithful.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Hebrews 9:28 ...so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant ratified in his own blood which supercedes the Old Covenant made with Israel at Sinai and opens up salvation to the Gentiles.
Hebrews 12:24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
Jesus is the first to be raised from the dead to eternal life.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
Jesus is the only one whereby we can be saved from death.
John 8:24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.
Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Jesus is the high priest and intercessor in heaven for the faithful.
Hebrews 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens
Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Jesus is God’s appointed judge
John 5:22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son
John 5:27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Jesus is the one who will reign over the kingdom of God on earth for 1000 years and bring an end to death in a final judgment.
1 Corinthians 15:24-28 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign (the 1000-year reign) till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
Jesus is the alpha and omega of the new creation.
Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Jesus is the one who will raise and judge the dead both at the beginning and the end of his 1000-year reign.
John 5:28-30 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom.
