The word of God, or the word of the Lord, is the word spoken by God.
It is only by what God reveals in his word that we can understand his character and his purpose – we have no other means. God has revealed these things by his word spoken by his prophets.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
We understand that the world was created by the word of God.
Psalms 148:5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
Psalms 33: 6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
9 or He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
So we read in Genesis::
Genesis 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light
6 Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.
9 Then God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so..
11 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.
14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 "and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so
20 Then God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens." 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind"; and it was so.
It is a matter of faith that we believe that ‘the worlds were framed by the word of God’
Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
The purpose of God is revealed in his word.
He created the earth to be inhabited
Isaiah 45: 18 For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD, and there is no other. 19 I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in vain’; I, the LORD, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
In the fulness of time he will fill the earth with his glory.
Numbers 14:21 "but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD—
This glory will be in the form of men and women raised to the divine nature in whom and with whom God will live forever.
2 Peter 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea.
This is God’s purpose as revealed in the word of God.
‘The word of the Lord’ occurs some 256 times in the NKJV.
The ‘word of God’ occurs some 44 times in the NKJV.
The earth is sustained by the word of God for God to bring his purpose to completion.
2 Peter 3: 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
The word of God in John 1:1-14 is generally misunderstood by those who believe the false doctrine of the trinity.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The Son of God IS NOT the ‘word of God’ which God has spoken through his prophets from the beginning.
The Son of God IS ‘the word of God made flesh’ - because his birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and future everlasting kingship on the throne of David are all PROPHESIED in the word of God spoken through the prophets and written down in the scriptures. — he is the living fulfilment of the word of God.
Further, the word of God testifies to the character of God as revealed to Moses.
Exodus 34: 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty…
This character was manifested in Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
So Jesus could say
John 14:9 "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus did not exist at creation.
He was promised as the physical seed of the woman:
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."
He was promised as the physical seed of Abraham:
Genesis 22: 18 "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."
He was promised as a prophet like unto Moses to whom they must listen if they wanted salvation
Deuteronomy 18: 18 ‘I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19 ‘And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
He was promised as the physical seed of David who would establish his throne forever.
1 Chronicles 17: 11 "And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 "He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 "I will be his Father, and he shall be My son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. 14 "And I will establish him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever."’"
In Luke’s gospel, Christ’s genealogy is taken through his Mother right back to Adam.
It was necessary that he should be a second Adam, tempted to sin as we all are, in order that his obedience to his Father would provide a way of escape from sin and death brought about by the first Adam’s disobedience.
1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made (at his resurrection) a quickening (life-giving) spirit.
Because he did not sin God raised him from the dead and gave him the divine nature. God gave him the power to give the divine nature to the faithful at the resurrection.
Jesus was a man fathered by God’s power acting upon Mary, a descendant of Abraham and David.
He came into existence at his birth as the only begotten Son of God.
He was born a man, to fulfil God’s word, all that was foretold of him in the scriptures.
He could say to the two on the road to Emmaus.
Luke 24:25 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 "Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
In this way is Jesus ‘the word of God made flesh’.
I hope you find this helpful.
God bless,
