The Bible was written by some 40 authors over 1500 years.
The scriptures which make up the Old Testament were written in Egypt, Israel and Babylon.
The scriptures which make up the New Testament were written in Israel, Asia and Rome.
Paul tells us that all the scriptures were written by the direct inspiration of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
Peter says:
2 Peter 1:21... holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
The writers recorded exactly what God intended.
Jesus says:
John 10:35... the scripture cannot be broken;
Luke 24:25... O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken... 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Despite being written by approximately 40 men over some 1500 years, the Bible does not contradict itself. The authors all proclaim the same one true God, and the same one way of salvation—Jesus Christ. Few of the books specifically name their author. Below is a chart of the books of the Bible with the name of the generally received author and the approximate date of writing.
