Baptism is by immersion in water not by sprinkling.
The word for baptism is from the Greek word baptizo which means to dip or plunge. It was used by the dyeing industry and described how a garment was completely immersed in the vat of dye and then emerged with an entirely different color than it had when it first went into the vat.
The Greek word for sprinkling is rhantizo. If sprinkling were the correct method, the disciples would have said "repent and be rhantized". They didn't. They said, "Repent and be baptized (baptizo)".
Baptism is symbolic of death, burial, and resurrection to newness of life (see Romans 6). Immersion fits the symbol perfectly. Sprinkling has no relationship at all to this symbology.
