Shadrach is a Babylonian name, the etymology of which is uncertain. Shadrach's Hebrew name, Hananiah, means "Yah has favoured." References to Shadrach can be found in Daniel 1:7; 2:49; and in the firey furnace story of Daniel chapter 3. Shadrach/Hananaiah along with Daniel and his two other companions were young Jewish captives in the court of Nebuchadnezzer, king of Babylon.
