Any relationship with God has to be through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

To achieve a relationship with God we first of all have to believe him and then diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith (belief) it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The only source of what God requires us to believe is the word of God – the Bible.

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!..17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Both the Old and New Testaments are by inspiration of God and are given to explain his plan and purpose.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The whole of the purpose of God is centred in one man – Jesus Christ.

John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

To come to God through Christ we must believe and obey the gospel (good news) that was preached by him.

Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

We must believe the gospel and be baptised.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (condemned).

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins...

By believing the gospel and being baptised for the remission of our sins we become sons of God and heirs of the kingdom which is to come.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

As sons of God we have a personal relationship with God and our lives come under his supervision.

As sons of God we have a personal relationship with God through our advocate at his right hand.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

In conclusion, there is no short-cut method of achieving a personal relationship with God. A proper understanding of the plan and purpose of God as revealed in the Bible is essential. God must be worshipped both in spirit and in truth. Access to God is only available through believing and obeying the gospel preached by his son.
