No, we do not practice "lent" because it is not Biblical. Indeed, the word "lent" is from an early Germanic word for "spring" and like "Easter" is associated with pagan rites around fertility. This pre-spring time of observance also has strong Babylonian pagan roots and was incorporated into the Catholic church when it became the state religion of the Roman Empire.
The pagan origins of Lenten and Easter celebrations are clearly seen in the debased "Mardi Gras" celebrations around the world to mark the beginning of lent and the eggs and bunnies that mark its end.
