What is the exhoration given to us in Hebrews 10:35?

How does confidence have a great reward?

Thank you for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

Hebrews 10:35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

Written to the Jews, the letter is showing that the Law of Moses was just a pattern and has been replaced by belief in and baptism into Christ. Christ, by his sacrifice has opened up the way into the most holy; giving those baptised into him direct access to God without the ritual of the Law and the Mosaic priesthood. Animal sacrifices have been replaced by the one perfect sacrifice. There is a new covenant and a new high priest. He reminds them of the tribulations that they endured when they were first converted. They had supported Paul and lost out financially and he says that their lost earthly possessions had been replaced by a reward kept in heaven (until Christ returns to give them eternal life).

Confidence (Greek – ‘parrhesia’ – meaning: confidence, boldness, assurance) the writer has used this same word 3 times before and uses it here for the last time.

Hebrews 3:6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence <‘parrhesia’> and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly <‘parrhesia’> to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness <‘parrhesia’> to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,

I suggest that the exhortation for us may be as follows:

1. The Law of Moses is done away; along with Sabbath observance.

2. Having been baptised into Christ we are to hold fast to our confidence in him.

3. We are to seek God in prayer through Christ for all our needs.

4. We are to draw near to God in every aspect of our lives.

5. Holding fast to a life in Christ with patient endurance will have great reward.

Matthew 10:22... he who endures to the end will be saved.

I hope this helps.
