How come Christadelphians don't believe in dreams?

Are dreams considered revelations or visions?

Thanks for your question.

It doesn’t really matter what Christadelphians think. It is what the Bible teaches that is important. Everyone dreams but how would anyone know that a dream is divinely inspired? The Bible teaches that the gifts of the Holy Spirit ended with the completion of the Bible. That would include the gift of prophecy including divinely inspired dreams and visions.

Many people have had falsely inspired visions: Joseph Smith of the Mormons, Mary Baker Eddy of the Christian Scientists, Emmanuel Swedenborg of the Swedenborgian church, Ellen White of the Seventh Day Adventists, Bah'u'llh of the Baha’i faith [a sect of Islam], a variety of Islamic and Hindu mystics, Many so-called “saints” of the Catholic Church, various Pentecostal leaders, and the list goes on and on. They all claim to have Divine revelation through dreams and visions and, for the most part, they all contradict each other on the most basic aspects of their message.

God is NOT the author of confusion! So how do we tell whether someone is legitimate or not in their claims that their dreams or visions are from God? First of all, if they claim such revelation, they are almost certainly mistaken right from the start because we are told that such dreams and visions ended when the gifts of the Spirit died out after the death of the last apostle. They died out because only the apostles were able to pass on the Spirit Gifts – see Acts 8:18. The only way such claims can be definitively tested is by means of the Bible itself. If their teachings contradict the plain teaching of scripture or if they claim to be adding some “new revelation” they are most certainly false prophets. Such people will face a very severe judgement when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to establish his Father’s Kingdom in the earth! See Isaiah 8:20; 1 John 4:1.
