Please tell me more about the Old Testament.

Where should we start reading? Genesis? Why?

Ifyou want to come to grips with what the Bible really teaches, why not take the free online Bible study course available on our website, www.thisisyourbible.com? This course will give you a background in the major themes of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. As with everything we offer, there is no cost to you other than your time and effort. You will also have a personal tutor to whom you may pose questions either from the course itself or those questions which come to you as you read the Bible.

Why do we start in Genesis? It is because in Genesis that the foundation is laid for every major doctrine taught in the Bible. The very first covenant is found in Genesis 3:15. Jesus talks about Noah's day being similar to the way things would be when he returns to the earth. God's promises to Abraham are the foundation of our relationship to God through the Lord Jesus Christ - see Galatians 3:27-29; and Matthew 1:1. The story of Abraham and Melchizedek perfectly illustrates the priesthood of Jesus and the life of Joseph parallels the experience of Jesus from his ministry, and death to his resurrection and mediatorship at the right hand of God. The story of Abraham offering Isaac is the perfect model of Christ's sacrifice. These are just the high-level incidents that are so important to us and to our understanding of the Bible. There is much, much more. That's why we study Genesis first. If you don't you will not be able to understand the New Testament at all.

I hope you have found this helpful.

God bless!
