If not, then what exactly is his status?
According to the Bible Jesus is not equal to God.
He is the son of God.
As a son he is subject to his Father.
Jesus says that his Father is greater than he.
John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
His Father knew things that he didn’t.
Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
His Father’s will was superior to his own.
John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
The Father has the last word over Jesus in the organisation of the kingdom.
Matthew 20:23… to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
The ‘oneness’ that Jesus claimed for himself and his Father is the same ‘oneness’ that he requests for those who believe on him.
The oneness doesn’t make them equal to God.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
After the millennial reign Jesus will be subject to his Father for eternity.
1 Corinthians 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
