Is the Bible clear on the concept of creation?

What does the Bible teach - is there room for evolution?

Thank you for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

The Bible is exceptionally clear about creation. There is no clearer record extant.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth...

The order of creation is logical. The time scale of six literal days presents no difficulty to one who believes that the Creator is omnipotent and not limited by time or space.

The Bible is consistent about the One God being the creator.The consistency of God as creator runs throughout the Old Testament.

Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day...

Exodus 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Deuteronomy 4:32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth....

Nehemiah 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all...

Job 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Psalms 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

Psalms 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth... 9... For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

Psalms 89:11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

Psalms 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Psalms 104:24 O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

Psalms 146:6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:

Proverbs 3:19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth...

Isaiah 37:16 O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Isaiah 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Isaiah 48:13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

Jeremiah 10:12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

Jeremiah 32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

God as creator is supported in the New Testament by Jesus and the apostles.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

Mark 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

Acts 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

Acts 14:15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

2 Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Revelation 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

According to the Scripture God is the creator of the literal heaven and earth.

Jesus Christ is the son of God who did not exist until born of Mary.

Jesus Christ is the creator of the spiritual heaven and earth which will come to fruition in the new heaven and earth after his return.. The creation is spiritual for by his righteousness and sacrifice he made possible the restoration to life of all generations of faithful men and women who will be the eternal inhabitants of the new heaven and earth.

The new heaven and earth is not a literal physical replacement of the old but a new order of life upon the old. For one thousand years men and women will be taught righteousness, evil will be restrained and justice will prevail under the righteous rule of Christ and his saints. At the end of the millennial reign there will be a final judgment and all who live on will have eternal life. God will dwell in them and the earth will be filled with his glory.

Those passages which speak of Jesus Christ as creator refer not to the literal but to the spiritual.

Isaiah 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.

This creation is necessary because the spiritual order established by the Law of Moses had been corrupted by the Jews and become ‘without form and void’. The Jews had become the blind, led by the blind.

Jeremiah 4:23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

In this sense Jesus is the beginning of the (new not the old) creation of God.

Revelation 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

In Christ, God laid the foundation of the new heaven and earth promised.

Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Jesus Christ was the crucial part in God’s plan from the beginning. In this sense Psalm 102:25 applies to him.

Hebrews 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

God created the literal heaven and earth with the intention of filling it with his glory in the form of men and women raised to the divine nature in whom God will dwell. Adam by his disobedience brought sin and death upon those destined to be part of the glory of God. To make void Adam’s disobedience God begat a son through Mary with Adam’s nature who by obedience unto death would lay the foundation for a new heaven and earth filled with the glory of God. His sacrifice allows God to forgive the sins of men and women of faith and raise them to life again.

Paul explains what is going to happen:

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

This will be the fulfilment of God’s purpose.

Numbers 14:21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Revelation 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

If the creation account is not the truth then the origin of sin and the reconciliation available through Jesus Christ is invalidated. The whole of scripture stands or falls by the integrity of the Genesis account.
