What things will be taken away from Judah?

When was Isaiah's prophecy in 3:1-17 fulfilled?

Thanks for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

Isaiah 3 speaks of the impending disaster of the Babylonian invasion and captivity of Judah. The judgement is coming because they had abandonned their God to worship idols and to commit all kinds of iniquity.

The fulifillment ocurred in two waves: one in 597 BC - when high-ranking hostages such as Daniel and his 3 friends were taken to Babylon and then again 10 years later when all were deported and the city of Jerusalem destroyed.

Isaiah 3:1-4 lists the items which they deemed to be important and which God would take away from them. Here are these versesas rendered by the ESV which may make things clearer than perhaps the King James does.

Isaiah 3:1-4 For behold, the Lord GOD of hosts is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah support and supply, all support of bread, and all support of water; 2 the mighty man and the soldier, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, 3 the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor and the skillful magician and the expert in charms. 4 And I will make boys their princes, and infants {OR petulant children (Rotherham)} shall rule over them.

All of their supports as a nation from rulers to warriors, judges, priests and prophets and the practitioners of the dark idolatry into which they had sunk would be taken away from them and, in the meantime, incompetent and self-willed rulers would lead them to this disaster.

I hope you have found this helpful.

God bless,
Mike
