What does it mean to gain the whole world and lose your soul?

But don't we need education, a house, money, etc. and yet this is a part of the world, isn't it?

Thanks for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

Matthew 16:26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

If God and His Kingdomare at the heart of all you do then all of these other things are a blessing and resources to be used in His service.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

If you put God first, all things are achievable and possible for you.

Jesus is warning us not to lose sight of our priorities. If in our pursuit of the things you mentioned, we lose sight of God, we may well have gained the "world" but, in the end, our lives will be forfeit.

This is what he meant in the parable of the sower when he said:

Mark 4:18,19 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

I hope you have found this helpful.

God bless,
