2 Samuel 6:5, what is a 'Sistrum'?

Thanks for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com.

You asked if a Sistrum were a stringed or a wind instrument. Itis neither. It is a kind ofmusical rattle. The King James calls them cornets which is incorrect. A cornet is a trumpet-like instrument completely different from the rattle-like Sistrum.

The Sistrum originated in the religious rites of ancient Egypt. Here's how one online dictionary described it, "a metal rattle or noisemaker consisting of a handle and a frame fitted with loosely held rods." Sistrums are readily available for purchase online.
