Is there really a lake of fire?

What is the lake of fire in the book of Revelation?

Thanks for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

There is no literal lake of fire. There areonly 5 occurences of thisphrase in the Bible and allare to be found in the book of Revelation, chapters 19, 20, 21. Revelation is a book of symbols and the Lake of Fire is symbolic of destruction brought about by divine judgement. In Revelation 20:14, death and hell [the grave - cf 1 Corinthians 15:54] are cast into the lake of fire. Death and the grave are abstract things with no bodily form. How could they be cast into a literal lake of fire? Rather, the Apostle John is writing of that glorious time when death shall be no more.
